Bijindo: Korean Island Where Time Stands Still

From above, the 99 islands of the National Marine Park Hallyeohaesang appear blue stains on the carpet moss.

Only 30 are inhabited, and by boat to the islands show a vision and quiet coastal town and bay dotted with fishing boats.

At the heart of 545 acres of the park, off the tourist trail, the rod-shaped island, called Bijindo.

Bijindo has a unique geographical feature - a stretch of powder white sand island to tie the two ends.

The locals call the island Miindo, meaning "beautiful island".

In Bijindo, time seems to stand still.

There is a road on the island - connects the two towns and Waehang Naehang - but not a car in sight.

The population over rest in the shade of the trees while walking the dog without care. Small waves breaking on an empty beach.
