KUALA LUMPUR, March 7 -- National badminton ace Datuk Lee Chong Wei and men's doubles Hoon Tien How-Tan Wee Kiong advanced to the quarter-final of the All England 2014 at the National Indoor Arena, Birmingham, England.
Chong Wei defeated team-mate Chong Wei Feng with a straight set 21-6 and 21-12 in 35 minutes in the second match early today (local time).
The number one world player will face Japan's Kento Momota, who defeated host player Rajiv Ouseph 21-15 and 21-10 in another match, according to the website www.bwfbadminton.org//sport.
World's number eight doubles Tien How-Wee Kiong had to struggle hard to defeat Hirokatsu Hashimoto-Noriyasu Hirata of Japan to qualify for the quarter-final.
Tien How-Wee Kiong won in the first set 25-23, but lost 20-22 in the second set, before regaining their confidence and beat Hirokatsu-Noriyasu 21-14 in the match which lasted for one hour and nine minutes.
Awaiting them in the next round are Gideon Markus Fernaldi-Markis Kido, from Indonesia, who defeated Mathias Boe-Carsten Mogensen 21-18 and 21-12 to be in the top eight doubles.
However, national women's doubles Vivian Hoo Kah Mun-Woon Khe Wei failed to make it to the quarter-final after losing to Japan's Misaki Matsutomo-Ayaka Takahashi 21-15 and 21-11.
