PETALING JAYA 7 March - The Pakatan Rakyat top leadership unanimously supports the efforts by Selangor Mentri Besar Tan Sri Abdul Khalid Ibrahim to restructure the state’s water industry, PKR adviser Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said.
In a statement on Friday, Anwar said Abdul Khalid had given an explanation to him, PAS president Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang and DAP adviser Lim Kit Siang during the Pakatan presidential council meeting Wednesday.
“Following the meeting, the presidential council has unanimously expressed its support for efforts by Khalid to restructure Selangor’s water industry,” he said.
Anwar added that the leadership was concerned with the matter, and had given advice and views to ensure the restructuring process yielded the best results for the state government and the people of Selangor, including the issues highlighted in the memorandum of understanding between the state and Federal Government.
“With that, we have also agreed that the state government, in the context of water restructuring, will continue to receive feedback from a special committee by Pakatan Rakyat, represented by PKR strategic director Rafizi Ramli, Selangor DAP chief Tony Pua, and PAS central working committee member Dr Dzulkefly Ahmad,” he said.
Anwar also noted that the top leadership had agreed to involve lawyer Tommy Thomas in the process as an independent representative of the Selangor people.
“Collectively, they will be responsible to provide a check and balance as well as feedback regarding the agreements that will be signed by the state government on the issue,” he said.
